7 Tips for Fighting an Ulcerative Colitis Flare Up
Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns can be one of the most frustrating an demoralizing things a person can go through. Sometimes it’s so frustrating that we forget what to do when we’re in a flare up. This video goes into the specifics of what to do when you are experiencing a UC or Crohns flare.
Eat an anti-inflammatory diet that includes things like bone broth, lots of good fats, and apple cider vinegar. Use supplements like spirulina to ensure micronutrient intake in the absence of vegetables, and supplement with Omega 3 fish oil or Algeal Omega 3. Avoid NSAIDS at all costs as they inhibit prostaglandins and could cause massive bleeding.
Hydrate as much as possible. Drink half your bodyweight in fluid ounces of water, plus an additional 10 ounces. Use natural salt to replenish electrolytes.
Get some light exercise in. No heavy workouts, but light exercise could help to reduce stress and alleviate depression.
Most importantly, make sure you get 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep every night!
Don’t eat very large meals. They can irritate your intestinal tract and worsen the flare up.
