You know, live in an interesting time. Never before in history did everybody out there get a voice. You can literally with your smartphone go on and type something or post a picture that is going to send a message to the world and you know, it seems like this is a lot of freedom. It seems like there's so many of us who could take advantage of that, to spread positivity, to to put good messages out there, to develop each other, to help each other, to help young people to realize what they're gonna do with their lives, and to help those of us who are down to pull ourselves up. But it's not really what we're using it for.
We're using it for something else. We're using it in a lot of cases for for self promotion. We're using it to gain approval from everybody else out there. Not really spreading a message that we wanna spread. We're spreading a message for the benefit of gaining likes, gaining followers, and gaining some sort of notoriety.
I've been struggling with this, I have to say, because had social media never been invented, none of you would probably know who I am, and and this podcast probably wouldn't exist. At the same time, I see what it's doing to some people. You know, yesterday, I was informed that a person who I've helped in the past gained a lot of followers on social media by faking cancer. Faking cancer. Right?
That's that's something that I didn't think that anybody I ever met in my life would be capable of. That's something you you hear about on the news, and you say to yourself, well, I would never be involved with a person like that. And yet, I knew this person. I trained this person. I helped this person.
And, know, I'm sitting here baffled by the fact that somebody I know could go out and and do something like this. Could fake a disease that is affecting so many people around the world. And not only that, this person went out and tried to promote alternative strategies, alternative treatments, and he was pretending that those treatments were working. Now, what if somebody had come up and watched those videos and said, you know what? I've got cancer.
I'm gonna try these alternative treatments. What if somebody was sent down that path toward something that might not work for them? You know, and and if you wanna try alternative treatments, awesome. I'm not against that. I'm just saying that that don't put success out there under false pretenses.
And I would normally tell you who this person is, but couple of things. One, I don't have all the facts, so I'm not gonna put this person on blast. Two, this person is now off of social media completely, and all of his videos have been erased. So luckily, many people aren't aren't going to see who he is and and what that fake story was. But my point about this is why do we have to lie?
Why do we have to lie in order to get social approval? Why do we have to lie in order to build up this false persona? Right? Is it the money? There's a lot of ways to make money in this world by truly helping people.
There's a lot of ways to to to push yourself forward by by truly bringing value to other people's lives. And it's not that hard these days. If you have knowledge in your head that could help others, you could do it. But why lie about it? There is so much power in your own story if you're just honest.
All the horrible things that have ever happened to you, all of the most embarrassing moments in your life. All the failures you've ever had. All those are opportunities to teach others. Opportunities to help others if you're honest about it. And if you've actively tried to find a solution to overcome those failures, and to put those embarrassing moments in the past.
If you've been able to do that, then there's knowledge in your head that could help others. And I'm not just talking about going online and and building up some online course. I'm talking about in your job. If you've got coworkers who are having a hard time, and you're doing okay, but in the past you've overcome some problems, well, you could help those coworkers to get through those issues. You could help them to do better at their job.
And in the end of the day, you'll you'll be looked up to by those coworkers, and eventually your boss is gonna notice. Right? The more value you're able to bring like that to your workplace, the more value you're able to bring like that to your relationships, the more value you're able to bring like that to your life, the more people are going to look up to you, and the more people are going to consider you somebody that they can trust, and somebody that they can invest in. But you just can't lie about it. You can't sit there and turn yourself into something you're not.
Because when you do, what's gonna happen? Well, number one, you're not serving others. You're just serving yourself. And when that happens, there is no value brought to that. Right?
There is no value you're giving anybody else. You're simply doing things to push yourself forward. Number two, people eventually find out about it. Right? And and you have to live with that on your conscience, and you have to live with that on your mind.
And I can't imagine a worse hell than having to sit there and live somebody else's life. A life that you made up. A life that's not real. A life that's not you. When you hide yourself from the world, that doesn't benefit you in any way.
That simply puts you into a position where you have to keep lying. And every lie that leaves your lips weakens you from the inside out. Be who you are. And if you are being who you are, then you'll become stronger. You'll become more comfortable with your story.
You'll become more comfortable with the idea that other people can learn from the lessons that you've learned. Wanna thank you for listening to this. That's all I got for today.
