Why I'm Doing Standup Comedy

In a time when freedom of speech and public get togethers are being made illegal in formerly free places around the world, it's more important than ever that you get up there and speak your mind. Comedy is one way of doing that.

What is going on, ladies and gentlemen? Welcome to yet another edition of the Warrior Soul podcast. My name is Chris Albert, and today is Thursday, 12/02/2021. You know, we are at a point in our world where I thought we would never get to. We are at a point where speaking your mind and talking about certain subjects can get you in trouble.

And in some countries where it wasn't formally possible to get you in trouble, it could get you a fine or put in jail. I'm talking about Canada, The United Kingdom. I'm talking about Australia. And that's scary to me. And what's even scarier to me is not the fact that governments are imposing these types of things on people.

That's what governments do. That's what they've always done. That's why I don't trust the government. That's why you shouldn't trust the government. What scares me more is the fact that there are people out there with our within our own populace who are calling for further restrictions on speech, who are calling for further restrictions on people's ability to speak their minds, to get together, to let their voices be heard simply because they don't like the message.

I personally don't care if your politics agree with mine or not. I wanna hear what you have to say. That way, I have the ability to disagree with it. Because if you don't allow for that opportunity, there will be outlawed voices speaking in outlawed groups underground, and eventually, those voices will get stronger and stronger because they don't get opposed. You need to have all this stuff out in the open.

The reason I'm bringing this up is because recently, I decided that I wanted to get into stand up comedy. And I know I'm like the last person a lot of people would expect to do something like that. I'm not generally a very funny person, but I think that comedy is one of the few places in our society where the truth is truly spoken. Right? A good comic is going to take you up to the edge of what's considered acceptable or not.

And the unspoken agreement between the comic and the audience is that the comic is not gonna take them too far and is eventually gonna make them laugh. And that's a big reason why I decided to to start doing this. I have no dreams or desire even to try to to get famous off of it or to try to even make money off of it. It's something that I'm doing for two reasons. One, for the same reason that I do this podcast, it's kinda like therapy.

You know, it's it's liberating. But two, I believe that it's our duty as Americans, as lovers of the free world, to get out there and to speak our minds in one form or another. And I'm always talking about ways you could get involved in your community, ways you can get out there and do things. Right? That that includes, you know, going to school board meetings and and going to city council meetings and, you know, getting involved with local clubs and, you know, becoming stepping up at work and and becoming a leader at work.

And I'm doing a lot of those things already. But comedy is something that's that's even more challenging to me because, like I said, never considered. I don't I don't think I'm widely considered to be a funny person. I also think that it is something that you can do anywhere. Right?

There's open mics all over the place. If there's not one in your local town, you could start one up. And I think that within this community, the veteran community, there's this strain of dark humor and honesty that is out there that so many veterans could be good at. And I think the general message of this episode is this, you know, in times where lots of things are getting outlawed that shouldn't be outlawed, I think you need to be an outlaw. I think you need to be a rebel.

I think this is your time to go against the grain. This is the time to speak your mind. This is your time to not be intimidated. This is your time to overcome your fears of getting up in front of people and speaking your mind, and to get out there and to let your voice be heard. And whether that's through comedy, whether that's through spoken word poetry, whether that's through you just getting up and talking, whether that's through you starting a YouTube channel and just speaking your mind at the camera for freaking ten minutes every week, or whether it's you're doing a podcast like this, I think it's so important that you do that and that you do that now during this time when things like that are being looked down by the elites who want to control us in every freaking way.

Look. All you've got in this world are two things. You've got your body and you've got your mind. You've got to take care of both. Right?

I'm a big believer in nutrition. I'm a big believer in training. I'm a big big believer in taking care of yourself. I'm also a big believer in enriching your mind, in trying to soak in new ideas. At the same time, the whole reason we do that, the whole reason we take in information and soak in new ideas is so that we can create our own and so that we can put something back out there into society, something that's gonna make society better, something that's gonna make this world better for us and for our children.

And, yeah, you know what? A lot of what's gonna make this world better is creating things, create building building better policies, building better government, building better leadership, building better inventions that are gonna make our lives easier. But part of that is also bringing some light to this world and making people laugh and freaking making people feel good and freaking allowing people to laugh at themselves every once in a while, which I think is a problem these days. People cannot fucking laugh at themselves anymore. So that's where I'm at, guys.

I am going to be posting small clips of what I've done thus far, comedy wise. Again, I'm not trying to promote myself as a comedian or anything like that. I have a different stage name than than what what I my name is here. My stage name is Chris Palmitessa. And there's a story behind that because Albert, Chris Albert, is actually not really even my real last name.

I think I've told you guys this before, but I grew up thinking that the man who supposedly was my father, I grew up thinking that his last name was Albert. I never knew the man, but the reality was I was actually a sperm donor baby. I didn't find that out till I was 40 years old. I've spoken about this in past episodes, found out through 23andMe. And so my stage name stage name, Palmitessa, is actually my mother's real last name.

And so that's a name that I'm taking on stage because it matches up more closely with who I actually am. Not my legal name, but that's what it is. I'm not trying to hide. That's why I'm talking about it here. So if you look up Chris Palmitessa on YouTube, you could see some videos my friend Doug has posted.

Also, out Doug's stuff. He he's a really, really funny dude funny dude. You know, he's a I've gotten to know him over the last few weeks. He freaking is amazing at telling stories. He's a freaking beast up there on stage.

He is b w j p dot radio on Instagram. So go check him out and also go check out Salty Sam show. He's the gentleman who has been putting together the open mics that I've been going to. So that's what I've got for this week, guys. You know I love you all.

I hope you're getting out there. I hope you're letting your voices be heard, and I hope that you are getting ready for an awesome holiday season and that you're getting ready to spend it with family or people who are important to you because at the end of the day, that's all we got. I love you all. Take care. Get out and live your best lives while you can.

This is Chris Albert with the Warrior Soul podcast, and I am out.
