What is going on, ladies and gentlemen? Welcome to another edition of the Warrior Soul podcast. My name is Chris Albert, and this is where we deliver tools, tactics, strategies, and ideas to help The US military veteran community and anybody else willing to listen to live their absolute best lives. Today's date is 12/29/2021. We are just a few days away from 2022 coming up on the new year.
And it is this time of year when people begin to think about renewing themselves. Right? Building a better you, developing some New Year's resolutions. And there's gonna be a lot of people who come on, you know, podcasts, YouTube shows, your favorite gurus. They're gonna come on and they're gonna say, yeah, you should do New Year's or they're gonna say, you shouldn't do New Year's resolutions.
They're a bunch of crap. I'm in between, man, because everybody is different. Right? New Year's resolutions might work for you. New Year's resolutions might not work for you.
But regardless of whether you're planning on doing resolutions, or if you're just planning on moving forward with some goals or anything like that, there are some underlying principles that I think everybody needs to understand if they're trying to renew their lives, if they're trying to to do better. You know, 2020 and 2021 have not been the easiest years for a lot of people. For myself, they've been some pretty good times. Right? I I was able to get a new and awesome job.
I was able to accomplish a lot of goals during that job. I bought a house. I moved to Florida. You know, I... I've been...
I got my blue belt in jiu-jitsu. I started stand up comedy. I... I've been rolling forward with this podcast. And it's not necessarily because I sat down and said, hey, you know what?
2020 and 2021 are gonna be my year. Basically, I said was, I don't give a fuck what is going on out there in the world. I am gonna go after what I wanna go after. I am going to to try to accomplish what I wanna accomplish. I'm gonna try and keep making the world a better place in my world and try to make, you know, it a better place for those who come in contact with me.
But I'm not gonna sit here and worry about the COVID pandemic, you know, let's go Brandon, you know, that guy in the in the White House or anything like that. I'm doing me, and I'm trying to help myself, my family, those around me, and my community, which means all of you who are listening to this podcast. And I don't give a fucking rat's ass what anybody else is trying to do, or what anybody else is... Thinks of what I'm doing or anything like that. It's based off of me, what I want in this life, what I see as...
What I want this world to look like, that's what I'm trying to project out there into the world. And if you're trying to do this, there there's some underlying things that that you really do need to think about. I'm gonna go through those on this episode. The first is this. It's exactly what I just said.
It doesn't matter what's going on out there in the world. There's gonna be pandemics. There's gonna be bad politicians. There's gonna be bad policy. There's gonna be stupid laws.
There's gonna be idiots all over the place. There's gonna be bad weather. There's gonna be freaking good economic times, bad economic times, stock market crashes, fat cats getting fat off of government aid after they they fucked up a bunch of shit that led to thousands of people losing their jobs. All that shit is going to happen. And it's something that I've said from the beginning of this show.
Right? The world isn't here to make things easy or difficult for you. The world is the world. It has been testing the living things that have lived inside of it from... Since the dawn of time to see if they're fit for survival on this planet.
And unless you approach life with that mindset, you are going to be collateral damage. Doesn't... It's not about fair. There is no such thing as fair or unfair in this world. There is no such thing as equity.
There is no such thing as fucking, oh, I... That... This is a bunch of bullshit. This shouldn't be happening to me. Get that shit out of your fucking head.
If you want something, if you wanna make it happen, you need to make it happen. Right? The world isn't gonna bend over backward for you to make it easy for you. There's not gonna be some stars aligning for you to do it. You have to grab hold of those stars and you've got to start making them align for yourself.
That's the only way shit is going to happen in this planet. And why would you step into this universe? This fucking... This world that we live into thinking that would it be any other way? If you do, you're coming in at a fucking massive disadvantage.
So get the concept of fair, unfair out of your head. Start putting the concept of work in your head. Alright? If you want to be fit, you want to be healthy, you want to lose weight, get up every day with that mindset. Do the workouts you need to do.
Stop putting crap in your body. Start training, friggin, and then march yourself toward that goal. Right? If you've got financial goals, stop buying crap. Stop buying the latest thing you see on fucking the Internet, Instagram, TikTok, whatever it is.
Don't worry about what those fucking assholes who are pretending they're rich are doing. You fucking develop a financial plan. You start saving your money. Fucking start investing it into the things that are gonna build your wealth and not take it away. Right?
You gotta stop worrying about what the world is doing. You gotta be starting to think about what you want for your own plan. What's gonna move your life forward? What's gonna help those around you? What's gonna help your family?
Right? And if you approach this any other way, you're gonna get fucking washed up in the wind. Alright? The next thing you need to think about. Right?
And again, this doesn't matter if you have resolutions, don't have revolutions, whatever. Right? If you do what I'm about to tell you, it doesn't even matter if you have goals. I highly suggest you have goals. I highly suggest that you have target points that you're going after.
But but if you do what I'm about to tell you, you know, you you... You'll constantly move forward, and that is to build up nonnegotiables for yourself. Alright? Think about who you are as a person. And and who you are isn't just about your thoughts.
It's about your actions. What do you do every single day that is a nonnegotiable? Right? For for everybody, that should be like things like, you know, brushing your teeth. Right?
Making sure that that you're putting on clothes. Right? Those are all non negotiables. But build some more freaking constructive non negotiables into your life. Right?
You know, fitness should be one. Right? Are you working out every day? Are you breaking a sweat every single day? Are you doing something that's physically challenging every single day?
Right? That should be a nonnegotiable in your life. And if you keep it as a nonnegotiable in your life, you'll you'll constantly be physically prepared. Right? It shouldn't matter whether or not you're training for something, if you got a marathon or if you got a jiu-jitsu match or anything like that, you should be training every single day just to keep yourself physically prepared for this difficult life.
Right? Another non negotiable should be nutrition. Right? Are you putting good food in your body? Right?
Now from time to time, I love cheesecake. Right? I'll have a slice of cheesecake. I'll I'll, I'll go out and I'll, I'll get a slice from the Cheesecake Factory, bring it home, right, after a good workout. Right?
And you want to build those things in your life. But but above all, you wanna build a baseline of good nutrition, good protein. Right? Making sure you're getting good vitamins and minerals into your diet through fruits and vegetables. Right?
Making sure that you've got a baseline. And I don't give a fuck if you're keto, vegan, whatever. Whatever is going to fuel you and help you to fucking build yourself to do the freaking physical things you need to do every day to think your best every single day. Right? Again, and I've said this constantly, the only two things you have in this life are your mind and your body.
Those are the only two things that that you have to constantly have with you. Right? And if you're not taking care of your body, your mind is gonna fail as well. Right? So freaking above all else, make sure that you're fueling your body right and treating your body right, preparing that motherfucker for for everything that's to come.
Right? You need to do that. That should be a non negotiable. And then other non negotiable should be things that you're doing to fucking constantly move forward toward whatever goal that you have. Right?
I think far too many people think, you know what, I'm going to do this one thing and that thing is going to be the thing that launches me out into the stratosphere. Right? And that's just not the way life works. Right? You don't do one single action and then find success.
Right? What what what you gotta do is you gotta find the little things that you're gonna do every single day that are going to eventually get you there. That's not sexy. It's not easy, but it's the fucking case. Right?
So if you're trying to buy a house, for example, what you should be doing is taking a set amount of money each week, making sure that you're saving that amount of money. Right? Now that's either gonna come by getting yourself some extra income. Right? Maybe building a side business, maybe putting in a few extra hours at work.
Right? Whatever it is, you need to make sure that that amount of money is going into your bank account every week. Right? Whatever that set amount of money is. Right?
And on the other side of that, you're gonna make sure you're not spending money on trash. Right? You've gotta make sure that you're not out there fucking, you know, buying every widget that pops up on your Instagram feed or or or, you know, I've got an addiction to fucking rifle gear right now. It seems like they're they're after me. Right?
So what I'm doing is, you know, after I meet my goal for the month, I I keep a little freaking notepad of the things that I wanna get. And if I've met my goal and I could still afford it, then I get that thing at the end of the month. I don't buy it as soon as it fucking pops up on my feed. Right? So you need to make sure you're doing those little things.
If you've if you got that fitness goal, again, it it goes up to those nonnegotiables. Are you getting to the gym? Right? If you got a jiu-jitsu tournament tournament coming up, are you getting the set amount of rolls in that you need to get per week in order to be prepared? Right?
All these different things. I'm doing comedy. Right? Comedy is a fucking awesome new thing that I've done. And what I've what I've determined is I have to do at least four mics a week.
Right? It doesn't matter where those mics are. I don't care if I'm freaking doing an open mic in a Denny's. I don't care if I'm doing it in a bar. I don't care if I'm doing it in a comedy club.
I'm getting at least four mics a week to try to perfect my craft. Right? So build those non negotiables. Right? In order to build those up, you have to determine who you are.
Right? These are things that make up who you are, your actions. Right? You have to determine who you are, who you want to be. Right?
And you have to list those things out. What are the things that you are going to do every single day before you lay your head down at night to go to sleep? Alright? The next thing is, and this follows on to to the non negotiables, what are you not going to do? Right?
You know who you are, you know what you want. Right? So what are you not going to do? What are you gonna get rid of in your life? And my suggestion is to get rid of those things that are not helping you.
Maybe they're not killing you. Right? Maybe you watch a little porn every single day. Right? And maybe those those five, ten ten minute sessions of watching porn, maybe they're adding up.
Right? Maybe it's not just five, ten minute sessions, you know, maybe you're maybe you're doing, you know, thirty minutes cruising through that feed because you can't find anything that fucking meets your little fucking dirty desires. Right? Maybe you're just fucking spending hours on porn and and that's not helping you. Right?
That's helping you fucking get that beast desire and freaking... Yeah. I'm gonna get too far into it. I sound like a fucking perverted granddad right now. But whatever it is in your life that you're doing that's not fucking helping you, fucking think about getting rid of that.
Don't think about getting rid of it. Get rid of it. Right? Fucking stop doing it. If it's not helping you, why are doing it in the first place? Right?
Are you smoking cigarettes? Right? Fucking why are you smoking cigarettes? Oh, because you like it? Right?
Is it helping you? Is it fucking giving you anything? No. It's fucking taking away. Right?
Are you hitting the bar every night, spending fucking, you know, 30 but $30 a night on beer? Right? Is that helping you? Probably not. Fucking maybe limit that shit.
Maybe limit it to fucking one night a week. And if it's fucking... Even that's becoming a problem. If you can't afford that, then get rid of that too. Fucking people.
People's another big one. If you've got people in your life who are just fucking toxic, who keep pulling you down, keep putting you in the positions that you don't wanna be in, maybe they're fucking constantly criticizing you, maybe they're fucking coming around and borrowing money and never giving it back to you, Fucking get rid of those people. Cut them the fuck out of your life. Right? They're not helping you.
They're not helping you to move forward. Fucking get rid of them. Right? Maybe you're following a bunch of people who put you in a bad mindset on social media. Maybe they do nothing but piss you the fuck off.
Right? Maybe you see them, you see what they post, and it just fucking angers you. Stop following them. Stop fucking giving them attention. Right?
Stop worrying about them. Maybe the news maybe the news is fucking with you. Right? The news, like, I I have a philosophy. If if something bad is happening out there in the world, it's gonna find me.
Right? Of course, I like to keep up on world affairs. I like to be an informed fucking American when I'm putting my vote in, but I know what I believe politically. I I pretty much know who out there follows along with what I want for this country and who doesn't. Right?
There there... There's not a damn news article in the world that's gonna change that. And this is the thing, the news today isn't there to inform you. It's there to either piss you off or reinforce what you already believe. Alright?
That's just the way the news works. There's some... There... There's like a minute amount of good news outlets out there that are actually doing their fucking job and informing the public. And then there's the vast majority.
And the vast majority is not informing anybody. Like I said, it's there to either piss you off further or to fucking reinforce what you already believe. That's it. That's what the news does. So if you want fucking a bunch of reinforcement for your already strongly held beliefs, then then go do it.
If you wanna be pissed off, then go do it. But it's not doing anything for you. Right? It's not. It's not helping you or anything like that.
So my advice is to fucking kick that shit out of there. Fucking limit yourself to like five minutes of reading headlines every fucking day, and then fucking worry about your own life. Worry about making the world around you a better place. Right? Worry about your family, taking care of them.
Worry about making yourself the strongest person you possibly can. Right? And that's what will fucking improve this country. Alright? So you got your non negotiables, you got the things you're not going to do.
Now, couple of things. Right? Everybody likes to go into the New Year. Right? And and they they they wanna build a new and better you.
Right? What what people tend to forget is finish what you started. If you've got some overlying thing that you've not completed yet for fucking 2021, fucking get that shit done. Right? Get it done.
If it's a project around the house, if it's fucking, you know, something that that you meant to do this year that you haven't done yet, If it's anything, don't leave fucking unfinished business on the table because it always fucking has a fucking habit of coming around and bite me in the ass. Right? So get that shit done. Right? Finish what you started.
Now, the next thing is this, fucking commit to trying something new that's gonna challenge you. Right? That's gonna challenge your mind, your body in some way. Commit to starting something new. For me, that thing was comedy.
Right? I wanted to do something where I could get up and talk in front of people, fucking challenge my mind, do some writing, figure out what makes people laugh. And that is my new thing. Right? And I love it.
It's been awesome. Couple years ago, my new thing was jiu-jitsu. Right? Fucking getting in there, grappling with somebody, trying to solve puzzles. And then within jiu-jitsu, there are constantly new fucking challenges.
Right? Every belt brings a new challenge. Every roll brings a new challenge. Right? So jiu-jitsu was something.
Now the key with both of these things is this. I didn't go out and try them once and fucking then just give up on them. Right? What I did was I went out, I tried them, freaking enjoyed them, wanted to get better at them, and then began working at them and setting up new challenges for myself that catch me involved. Right?
And in the process of doing that, I went out and I found people who were also doing that activity, who were a little bit ahead of me in that activity, and then fucking got involved with them, training with them. Right? Going to open mics with them. Fucking... You know, that's a big thing that I think a lot of people in our community don't understand is that if you wanna do anything, anything that's worth doing, it's gotta involve other people.
Right? It's gotta involve other people. Right? Maybe there are some things. Right?
If you're... If you like carpentry. Right? You wanna do some woodworking. Maybe you can get a book.
Maybe you can learn it from fucking YouTube, that kind of stuff. But the vast majority of things out there are going to require you to go out there and meet people who are better at those things than you, to learn from them, and to fucking integrate them in your tribe. And then to continue to do the things that you need to do to try to get better at them. And then in turn, those things that you're doing to get better, they start to become part of your non negotiables. Right?
Like I said, I'm going to a set amount of open mics every week. I'm going to a set amount of jiu-jitsu training sessions every week. Right? They've become a part of my non negotiables, who I am as a person. Right?
The next thing is this. Above everything else, don't fucking give up. Right? I think far too many of us, we try to start something new. We try to go out there.
We try to do something. It's fucking difficult. We fall on our faces, and then we tell ourselves, hey, I'm never gonna do this again. It's a bunch of bullshit because you're not giving yourself a chance. You're not giving yourself any fucking chance whatsoever.
If you love yourself, if you have any fucking inkling of like for yourself, and you need to if you don't, you need to fucking be a friend to yourself. And that means not fucking giving up. That means constantly pushing forward. That means fucking putting the work in you need to do every single day, so that you can go up to that mirror and you look at yourself in the mirror and you have some sense of pride in who you are. And you have to fucking be able to do that if you're gonna move forward in this life.
You have to love yourself in some way. Right? And I think far too many of us don't. Right? We don't like ourselves.
And that's why we put ourselves into situations constantly that are destroying us. That's why we fucking self destruct. Right? You've got to fucking be a friend to yourself, and you can't allow yourself to quit in anything. Right?
There's some things that you'll do in this world that that maybe they didn't add up. Like, I'm never... I always wanted to be a fucking NBA player when I was a kid. Right? And that was never gonna fucking happen.
Right? Never gonna happen because I'm fucking five foot eight. I have fucking no athleticism whatsoever. Wasn't gonna happen. Right?
But that's reality. Right? With a lot of these things, like the things that you want for your life. Right? Good relationships, fucking physical fitness, fucking being able to fucking, you know, think.
All these different things, they require work, and they're doable for all of you. Right? Particularly in this community because a lot of you served in the military. You know what it's like to transform. You went to boot camp.
Right? You came out. You came out as somebody else. Right? A different person than when you went in.
And for a lot of us, unfortunately, what we've done over the fucking past few years of of, you know, civilian world is we undid a lot of those things. We lost that fucking sense of possibility that we could do whatever the fuck we put our mind to. And not for any reason except we stopped. Right? So you gotta keep going.
You gotta keep pushing forward, and don't quit at these things. That's all I got, guys. You know, again, if you're doing New Year's resolutions, you're setting up goals for yourself, awesome. If you're not, that's fine too. If you don't believe in that, that's fine.
But fucking create these underlying principles. Fucking set up your fucking non negotiables. Decide who you're gonna be. Right? Set up your non negotiables for your day.
Friggin' set up the things that you know you're not gonna do. Right? Write those things down. And if you catch yourself doing them, you know, don't be fucking hard on yourself. Don't fucking, you know, start fucking tearing yourself down.
Just fucking get back on the horse and commit to not doing them anymore. Right? Try new things that are gonna challenge you. Right? And and keep doing them.
Don't quit. Try to find good people to fucking integrate in your life and get the fucking bad people out. Right? Stop fucking worrying about the news. This world is not gonna get any better by us fucking sitting here and just being pissed off.
We've got to start taking action. It starts with the small things in our lives, and then the fucking actions we take in our family and our communities, and that's how we make this world a better place. I wanna wish you guys all a happy New Year. I hope you've enjoyed the holiday season. I love you all.
This is Chris Albert with the Warrior Soul podcast, and I am out.
